Pat was born in San Mateo, California to William Paul and Blanche R. Barr on March 7, 1939. He passed away following heart surgery complications on April 1, 2011. Pat was raised in San Gabriel, California and attended Pasadena High School. He later attended San Jose State College but graduated from Idaho State University Pocatello, Idaho College of Pharmacy in 1969. There, he met his wife, Carol Ann Barr, who was also attending ISU and they were married October 18, 1969. Following graduation the couple moved to Carol's hometown of Sacramento and Pat worked at Payless Drug Stores which is now Rite Aid. He became the youngest Pharmacy Manager in the state and continued working at Rite Aid until his retirement in 2001. During his career he was a member of the American Pharmacists Association, California Pharmacists Association, and Sacramento Valley Pharmacists Association. One passion that he had was driving his Porsches. He was a member of the Porsche Club of America and the Sacramento Valley Porsche Club and the Sports Car Club of America. He enjoyed attending races at Sears Point, Laguna Seca, and Le Mans France. He enjoyed local auto crossing events as well. Another treasure was going to their vacation home in Bodega Bay. That house served as quiet respite and gave them both the solitude and tranquility they needed in retirement. Pat started building model boats there and joined the Redwood Empire Shipbuilders Club. He was active in the community's annual Fisherman's Festival. He loved salmon fishing and crabbing on his boats and party boats as well. Pat enjoyed playing golf throughout his life especially with his son, Trent. The couple traveled most of the world, usually one big trip to one country a year. They traveled to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, most of the United States and Canada. Pat leaves behind his loving wife, Carol of 41 years, their son Trent Patrick Barr (Monica), and their daughter, Lindsay Ann Sotherland (Carl). He was a devoted and loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Lucas Richard Sotherland, Madeline Ann Sotherland, and Ian Trent Barr. Pat also will be missed by his fraternal twin brother John Michael Barr (Marlene) and his sister Pauline Shockey (Nigel) and their children Laura Elizabeth Barr and Jeffrey Michael Barr (Keira) and Susan Rae Fisher (Ronald) and their children.
There will be a private memorial for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mercy Foundation C/O Mercy General Hospital, A.G. Spanos Heart Center, 3400 Data Dr., Rancho Cordova, CA 95670-7956.
