

Age 87, passed away on March 10, 2011 with his family at his bedside after a courageous battle against cancer.
Bill was born on March 4, 1924, in Vancouver, Canada, the elder son of Lily & William McCarter. Following the death of his father in 1930 the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and Bill effectively became the head of the family, taking care of his mother, younger brother Rhea and sister Eleanor. In 1943, Bill married Edna Gunderson and they raised three wonderful children. Bill attended Fremont High School and graduated from Armstrong University in Berkeley.
In December 1942, Bill enlisted as a private in the Army Air Corps and enrolled in flight school. He was made an officer and flew a C-47 in the Rhineland campaign before being honorably discharged at the end of the war. He often talked about his military experiences and belonged to a WW2 pilot's association.
After getting his degree, Bill became a certified public accountant. He joined the United States Department of Treasury, and served as a treasury agent in Oakland and Santa Rosa. In 1973, he was assigned as an attache to the United States embassies in Rome and Paris.
After his retirement from the federal service, Bill settled in Sacramento, where he worked as an independent consultant. He married Miriam Dong of Sacramento on August 20, 2007. They loved to travel, and drove several times to Mexico and across the United States. They also traveled to other European countries, and to China, the Philippines and Vanuatu. Bill and 'Moy' became very popular In their 'C' Street community, and he will be sadly missed there.
Bill is survived by his wife Miriam; his daughter, Karen Stubbs and her husband Jeffry Stubbs of Mendocino. He leaves 5 grandchildren, Matthew Stubbs, Jeffry Stubbs, Kirsten Thea Stubbs, Kelly Stubbs and Joshua McCarter. He leaves 8 great-grandchildren, Cora Stubbs, Zara Stubbs, Danielle Stubbs, Natalia Stubbs, Elixa Acuna Stubbs, Marissa Mezzanatto, Charlize McCarter and Sidney McCarter. He was preceeded in death by his daughter Michelle Perenelli, his son Bill, his brother Rhea and his sister Eleanor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 2 at 11:00am in the Harry A. Nauman Funeral Home on Freeport Boulevard, in Sacramento. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of Charlize Nicole McCarter.
