Arnit "Arnie" Martin

Arnit "Arnie" Martin, age 99, passed away on Feb. 1, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret A Martin; dear Father of Donald (Helen), Douglas (Doris) Martin and Joan (Ray) Scheulen; dear grandfather of Kevin, Gregory, Julie, Jill, Michelle, Vikki and Robin; great-grandfather of 18, and great-great-grandfather of one. Preceded in death by brothers Earl, Ira, Garl, Nathan and Warren and sisters Latishia, and Phoebe.

Arnie grew up on a farm in Garwood, Missouri, with 7 brothers and sisters. His father was a farmer and Itinerate Evangelist. He traveled to different places, by horse, to preach the gospel.As a profession, he owned and operated a gas station; worked in the lumber business; made ammunition for soldiers during the war and the assembly line at Ford Motor Co.He met his beautiful wife at church and they were married in 1936. They had 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Christmas was special because all of the family would be together. He was very proud of his family.He played the guitar, banjo and a harmonica in a band called “Just For Fun”. He volunteered at Missouri Baptist Hospital in the gift shop. He was also a Deacon and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church of St. Ann.He loved playing music, woodworking, and fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks. His favorite entertainers were Hank Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Jordanaires. He enjoyed playing cards and checkers; listening to Southern Gospel music; watching The Andy Griffith show and Cardinal Baseball.

A funeral service will be held. Tues., Feb. 5, 2013 at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home, 11101 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Ann. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m., Monday, February 4, at the funeral home.
