Jackie was the beloved wife of the late William Hasty; devoted and cherished mother of Bill (Mary Carol) Hasty, David Hasty, Brenda (Steven) Kramer, and the late Diane Hasty-Allen; loving grandmother of Rebecca, Nicole, Ashley, Sherry, Sandy, and Susan; dear great-grandmother of Jaylyn, Jessie, Soraya, Kirsten, Sammie, Caleb, and Cody; great-great-grandmother to Kyra; sister of Vera White; aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Our mother, Jackie, as she preferred to be called, was the youngest of her family. She had seven sisters; Bonnie, Jessie, Billie, Aileen, Vera, Berda, and Cassie. The stories she told of her childhood experiences were colorful, and we as a family never tired of hearing them. She learned at a very early age the pain of loss. She and her sister, Cassie, were hit by a car riding double on a bicycle. She lived but unfortunately, Cassie didn't. She could never possibly forget it, and she carried the scars from that tragic day.
She married Bill (William), our father at a young age and had four children; Bill, David, Diane, and Brenda. Dad passed away way too young in his 30's and she was left to raise us alone. Times were not easy but we endured as a family. She was a strong woman because she had to be.
We learned personally at a young age, the strength of family values. She was a fine example to follow. She was courageous, and persevered in the face of adversity. She was the glue that bonded us. As each of us grew, some chose mates and had our own families. She became a proud grandmother many times, and was proud of each of them in their own right.
Then came the pain of another loss. Her third born, Diane, passed away at the early age of 44. It grieved her until the end of her own life. No parent should ever suffer the loss of their own child. She endured it, but it cut her deeply.
She came to be a great-grandmother several times, and was very active in raising Jessie, one of the great joys of her life. They would sit as Jackie passed on her stories and experiences, no doubt teaching life's lessons to a young life that has yet to learn.
Before her passing, she hastened to have a tree planted in the yard. Only now these past few days do we realize it was done for a greater purpose. It was done so that we would have a forever reminder that Jackie Hasty was here and she loved us.
We have great memories of our mother that we will forever cherish, and we will greatly miss her. Life is short. Be kind and love one another.
