John Louis Trovato, 83, of St Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 1, 1942, in The Bronx, New York, John was the beloved son of the late Louis and Marie Trovato.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, John was the cornerstone of his family and lived a life defined by love, faith, and service. He shared 58 cherished years of marriage with his wife, Eileen, building a family rooted in devotion, tradition, and unwavering support.
John graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, NY and went on to attend St. John’s University. While at St John’s, he enlisted and honorably served his country in the United States Navy, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty, integrity, and patriotism. Following his Honorable Discharge, John became a prominent businessman in New York and later in Florida after relocating with his family to the greater Daytona Beach area.
Deeply grounded in his Catholic faith, John was an active and dedicated member of the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. He was a founding member of this parish, serving on their finance and building committee from 1981 – 1989 when the new Church was completed and blessed. John was also an active charter member of Council 8086 of the Knights of Columbus in Port Orange, Florida. His service to the Church extended to his role on the Diocese of Orlando School Board, where he worked to support Catholic education and values. His faith guided every aspect of his life and was a source of strength and wisdom to all who knew him.
John was a man of many passions. He had a love for cars, from American Muscle to Foreign Sport and German Luxury, but his ’64 and ’68 Corvettes were always top of his list. John was also a musician, founding member and drummer of the band The Satin Touch, that played throughout Long Island, NY in the late 1960’s & 1970’s. John’s love of traveling, exploring and making memories with his family was something that brought him great joy. And, when at home, he took great joy in preparing meals that brought family and friends together. And of course, his Bronx roots could only mean he had a deep love of the New York Yankees and was fortunate enough to spend time at both the old and new Yankees Stadiums.
A natural mentor, John was always willing to share his knowledge to help make people better. He was given the nickname The Shell Answer Man as he was everyone’s go-to for questions and answers. As a former pitcher, he loved to coach youth baseball, instilling not only skills of the game but also lessons of teamwork, discipline, and character. Known as a man of great wisdom, he was deeply respected for his thoughtful counsel, patience, and kindness.
John is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Trovato; his sons, Michael Trovato (Heather) and Daniel Trovato; and his treasured grandchildren, Addison Trovato, Milo Trovato, Nicola Trovato, Madeline Trovato, and Keegan Trovato. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Trovato.
Visitation will be held on January 5, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens St. Johns Funeral Home, 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St. Johns, Florida. A Funeral Mass with Military Honors will be celebrated on January 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, 1718 State Road 13, North St. Johns, Florida.
