

Michael Joseph Gregg, age 77, passed away peacefully, at Community Hospice Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring, on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Mike was born on December 5, 1945, in Miami-Dade, to Capt. Wm. E. Gregg (USAF) and Catherine BonSecour Gregg. Mike graduated from Father Ryan High School for Boys in Nashville, Tenn. in May, 1964.
Mike enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. on Feb. 1,1966, and trained at Parris Island, S.C., Camp Lejeune, N.C. and Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, Tn. On December 13, 1966, Mike received orders to transfer to Vietnam via Travis AFB, Calif. Mike transferred to Vietnam, via Okinawa, then to DaNang, and arrived at Chu Lai, Vietnam, on Dec. 15, 1966.
Mike was a helicopter aerial gunner in Vietnam. During Mike's year-long tour of duty in Vietnam, he contracted Malaria, and his helicopter was shot down; fortunately, he was not seriously injured. On January 30, 1970, Mike was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant, Aviation Machinist Mate,
After leaving active duty from the Marine Corps, Mike pursued a successful career in Retail Management. He worked for Zayre Department Store for several years, and then joined Walmart in October 1982. During his 26 years with Walmart, Mike served a store manager in Hilton Head, S.C., Morrow,, Ga., and Jacksonville, Fl.
Mike's hobbies and interests included learning to fly, traveling to most of our National Parks, building model airplanes, bike riding, and playing golf and pickle ball with his many friends in St. Johns, Fla.
Mike was a proud member of the Semper Fi Society, Flight 93 National Memorial-Founding Sponsor, National Parks Conservation Assoc., and AOPA.
Mike is survived by his 4 children, Michael Joseph Gregg, Jr., William Amos Gregg, Heather Berg (Russ), and Kimberly Dawn Gregg, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Anne (Gregg) Hauser.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hardage-Giddens, 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St. Johns, Fl. 32259, on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, Tn. 37221, on December 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fl. 32257, or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
