

Vernon Reginald Kerr born in Kingston Jamaica on November 26th 1931 to the parents of Keturah Donaldson and Eric Kerr. He was the older of two children, younger sister Gloria who he was very protective of and very kind brother. As a youngster Vernon attended Nuns-pence School off old Hope road in Kingston, Jamaica. At a young age of 9 Vernon met Avril who would later become his wife, they enjoyed good times as teenagers, and he was great friends with her two brothers Philando and Alvin Clifton.
At the age of 19 Vernon attended trade school to become a sign artist and then he promised Avril when he was finished with his training they would be married. Vernon and Avril was married on August 24th 1957 over 60 years ago. Avril migrated to the US in 1968 and was able to send for her husband in 1970 they reside in Brooklyn New York for many many years. There Vernon worked for Acme Awning Company in the Bronx. He worked there until he retired around 1991. While living in New York Vernon greatest joy was summers where he would sit in the backyard listening to his radio whether it be the news or baseball games his favorite teams the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. He also enjoyed painting different signs in the backyard for events in the summer birthdays for his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed gardening. Plus he would paint the steps in the front of his home every summer green that was the color. He was never one to take a vacation although he did travel to England. Avril would be gone on her trips and he would be quite comfortable to be home taking care of things around the house.
After his retirement in 1991 Avril and Vernon would become snowbirds in Florida they purchased a home in Ocala, Florida where they would spend 6 months and 6 months in New York until they finally relocate totally to Ocala, Florida.
Vernon was the man of few words he was content to just sit and watch his TV or do some work around the yard painting sceneries and pictures which he would give to his children as gifts. He lived for 93 years when he passed away on April 12th 2025 he will be greatly missed by his family friends and loved ones he leaves behind his son Vernon Kerr Jr and wife Andrea, daughter Joan, and daughter Deborah and husband William, also loads of grandchildren, great-grandchildren's, nieces and nephews. Gone but never forgotten.
A visitation for Vernon will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens St. Johns, 1285 St. Johns Parkway, St. Johns, FL 32259, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
