AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Maxine R. Jeffrie
5 juillet 1942 – 15 novembre 2020
Maxine R. Jeffrie is in peace with the Lord, Sunday, November 15th. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Marie Fleming; son-in-law, Robert S. Fleming; and grand-daughter Clare Marie Fleming.
Maxine was born July 5, 1942 at the Lutheran Hospital in Hampton, IA to Wilbert and Laurena Witte. She had one brother, Marvin Witte.
She attended country school in Mott township and moved to Hampton schools in second grade. She graduated in 1960 from Hampton High School. Maxine continued her education at State College of Iowa (University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls. Here is where she met a group of wonderful friends, who call themselves the Round Robins. This group of friends has stayed connected throughout all these years by sending a chain letter about family and life updates and photos. The letters continue to this day! She received her BA in Elementary Education with a subject field in Art, on June 4, 1964.
While in High School she met her first and only love, her husband Howard. They dated throughout high school and college and were married on June 14, 1964. They made their home in St. Louis, MO. Maxine taught kindergarten at Springdale School in Berkeley, MO for 6 years. After having their daughter Anne in 1970, Maxine stayed home and kept the house in order. In 1988 she began teaching preschool at Hamilton Christian Church in Creve Coeur until 1999. She continued her love for children by teaching crafts, baking and playing with her only grand-daughter Clare. Her love for art was expressed through sewing, cross-stitching, and most of all card making. Everyone who knew Maxine would receive a beautiful hand stamped card for birthdays and various holidays throughout the year.
Howard and Maxine spent the retired part of their life traveling the world, watching Cardinal baseball and cooking together. They attended and were involved at St. Paul Lutheran church in Des Peres.
Maxine was a dear and caring friend to many. Her creative talent and smile will always be remembered. Her final resting place will be in Hampton, Iowa next to her husband Howard. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri.

Both my late husband and I enjoyed Howard and Maxine the few times we socialized with them. We regretted never having enough time to do more!
We did share wonderful memories of our common home state of Iowa and were kindred spirits in our appreciation of Grace Alone, Faith Alone and Scripture Alone! I rejoice that Maxine has joined our Lord in heaven and plan on seeing her again.

We were friends through high school, college and were in each other’s weddings a week apart. Max and Howard and Bill and I enjoyed many visits and special times together, including sledding in the winter. One summer Max and I walked the bean fields together. Such good memories. She was a great friend, a fantastic cook. I have a collection of handmade Christmas and birthday cards from her. I treasure my memories of Maxine and extend my sincere sympathy to Anne, Bob and Clare. ❤️

Maxine was like a daughter to my parents, many fond memories. She was older and I didn't know her as well as her brother Marvin. They grew up just across the road. To the family, am sorry for your loss and am praying for you.

I have so many wonderful, cherished memories with Max, Howard, and Anne. Many of my favorite childhood memories were spent with the Jefferies. Sitting around their kitchen table eating Fry Daddy Donuts and Frakenberry, going to Hilton Head during Hurricane Bob, and doing art projects with Max's direction are just a few of the many. My heart is with you Anne, Bob and Claire.
