ST. MARTINVILLE– A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mary Theresa Laperouse Melancon, age 87, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville. Fr. John Joseph will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A visitation will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home in St. Martinville on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the service time. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am.
A native of and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. Melancon passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home in Cade.
Mary, who went by Theresa and was known as TooToo by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born on February 11, 1933 to the late Louis and Rosalee Landry Laperouse. Her service to the medical field as the first 4th floor ward clerk with Lafayette General Medical Center and her continued service in the nursing field brought her and the patients she helped during their time of need great joy. Theresa’s hobbies were sewing, crafting, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving and Christmas because the house was always full of decorations and the family would gather to celebrate the holidays. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Theresa will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cheryl Blanchard, Sandy Pourciaux (John “Pie”), and Laurin Castille; four sons, Larry Castille, Jody Castille, Russell Castille (Joni), and Anthony “Sal” Melancon, Jr. (Colby); stepdaughters, Tina Melancon, Mary Melancon Miller (Jeff), and Theresa Colbath (Dock); stepson, Jophus Melancon (Barbara); grandchildren, Angel Blanchard Littlejohn (Brian), Dana Blanchard Theriot (Beau), Rosalee Blanchard Griffin (Clayton), Billy “B.J.” Segura (Brandi), Lane Brody Thibodeaux, Jamie Lee Castille, Matthew Blaise Castille (Amy), Kylie Castille Hebert (Mica), Anthony “Sal” Melancon, III, Kelsi Melancon, Ella Melancon, Elliot Melancon, and Grae Melancon; step-grandchildren, April Kilhorn, Katheryne Kilhorn (Matthew), Robert A.N. Kilhorn (Solton), Donnitta Seay (Todd), Robert A. Raddatz (Ariza), B.J. Kinsey (Stephanie), Christopher Kinsey, Kori Melancon (Chelsea), Kaitlyn Pearson (E.J.), Seth Melancon (Hannah), and Skye Melancon; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip, Roger, Russell, and Bobby Laperouse; daughters-in-law, Rachel Castille and Barbara Castille; husband, Anthony “Sal” Melancon, Sr., previous husband, Leroy Castille; and great granddaughter, Seraphine Theriot.
Pallbearers will be B.J. Segura, Lane Thibodeaux, Jamie Castille, Sal Melancon, III, Matt Castille, and Beau Theriot.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Lourdes Hospice and Landmark of Acadiana for the excellent care given to their mom and grandmother.
