Edward Snow of Marblehead and Salem, MA, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 20, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Snow. Devoted father of Nancy Snow (David Owens), Michael Snow (Elizabeth Lemons), Linda Snow Dockser (Mark Dockser), all of Reading. Proud grandfather of Joshua Dockser (Katherine Worthington), Benjamin Owens, Hannah Owens, Aaron Dockser (Alexa Erb), Abigail Lemons, Jennie Dockser, and Nathaniel Lemons. Loving brother of the late Robert Snow. Dear son of the late Benjamin and Cecelia (Mitchell) Snow, originally from Russia.
Ed grew up in Revere and was valedictorian of his Revere High graduating class, collecting state-wide honors as a thespian, poet, and varsity pitcher on the high school baseball team. He matriculated at Harvard College, earning his BA in Sociology and meeting many of his life-long friends. It was there that he also met his first true love, Barbara Levy, who was attending Jackson College. Ed and Barbara wed in 1954 and raised three wonderful children in Marblehead and one Scottish terrier named Duffy. They remained blissfully married until Barbara’s death from Leukemia in 2007.
Ed also served two years in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Iceland. Upon his return, Ed moved with Barbara to Indiana to work for Inland Steel, and then returned to Marblehead to work for the family automotive business. Ed subsequently worked with his friend and cousin-in-law Louis Frisch to start and run a successful business, Creative Industrial Supply Co., which provided creative solutions to operational and logistical problems for G.E. Aircraft in Lynn, MA.
Family always came first for Ed and Barbara, cheering on their kids and then their grandkids as they engaged in sports, music, and drama activities. Ed also enjoyed acting with Marblehead Little Theater, traveling abroad with Barbara, and volunteering with the Jewish Federation and Temple Emanu-el, where he was a member for 65 years and served on the board. He was a fierce fan of Harvard football for over 60 years, taking pride in a nearly unbroken attendance record at their home games, often with his Harvard friends and their wives.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, Jan. 23, at Temple Emanu-el at 393 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA. Interment will be at Temple Emanu-el of Marblehead Memorial Park, 8 Buxton Road, Danvers, MA. A reception at Temple Emanu-el will follow from 12-2.
Family and friends are invited to Shiva at the home of Linda (Snow) and Mark Dockser, 110 Beaver Road, Reading, MA, on Saturday, January 24, from 7-9 PM and on Sunday, January 25, from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM.
