

Judith Esther (Samuels) Clayman was born on May 23, 1939, in Monessen, PA. She passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, after an intense battle with cancer. She had an indomitable spirit, enthusiastic energy, a sunny disposition, a can-do attitude, problem solving skills, athleticism, and an abundance of fitness. Judy was a remarkable woman who lived a remarkable life. She loved all aspects of her life including her family, friends, work as a professor/teacher, traveling, and caring for flowerpots.
An educator for over 60 years, she reached, mentored and taught thousands of students in high school and college. Her professional career included teaching high school in Wakefield, MA, Marblehead, MA, and Jamestown, PA. She later became a professor (emerita) at Endicott College in Beverly, MA for over 50 years. She coached women’s athletics including basketball, field hockey, softball, track and field and tennis. She took great pride in never having a losing season; all teams were winners. She was a Massachusetts and NCAA certified official for women’s basketball and field hockey.
She was raised in Greenville, PA and graduated High School from William Penn High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University and Master’s Degree from Boston University. Following in the footsteps of her father, who was a physical education instructor in his early career, Judy studied Physical Education.
An avid tennis player well into her eighties, she was constantly on the go whether it was on the tennis court, shopping or traveling – especially cruising to various destinations around the world. She also had a passion for challenging the gaming tables in Las Vegas with her late brother and partner in crime, Larry Samuels.
Judy Clayman was predeceased by her late husband of 53 years, Dr. Charles Clayman and is survived by her three children; Brian, Scott, and Stephanie, their spouses [Stephanie (McCadden) Clayman and Richard J. (RJ) Giarla], eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Judy is also survived by her loving partner of seven years, David Frank of Salem, MA.
A Memorial Service will be held at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel in Salem, MA at 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023, followed by Shiva at the home of Scott and Stephanie Clayman, 8 Tanner's Ridge Road, Peabody, MA and will continue on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
