4/11/1941 - 5/29/2021
On Saturday, May 29, 2021, Mark L. Feingold passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Amy Feingold (Clayman). Devoted father of Dan and Judd Feingold. Cherished grandfather of Hana, Elijah, and Noah Feingold.
Mark was born on April 11, 1941, in Boston, MA to Reuben and Celia (Resnick) Feingold. He grew up in Revere and was captain of the high school football team. He received a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1965. He met his wife, Amy, at the University of Massachusetts as an undergraduate in 1961 and married her on May 31, 1964. They were just a few days shy of their 57th wedding anniversary. Amy’s father ran two retail liquor stores in Lynn, MA and after some early CPA work, the liquor store is where Mark found the perfect fit. They moved to Marblehead in 1965, raised 2 sons, and Mark ran the family business for 42 years until he retired in 2007.
First and foremost, Mark loved his family and was dedicated to ensuring their well-being. On his days off from work when his children were young, he enjoyed making breakfast for the whole family. He also understood how the little things in life matter. During trips to the store for incidentals, he would often come home with a treat or flowers or both for his wife. Mark understood how to set aside special time for his wife and children, giving them his individual attention such as an impromptu dinner out, unexpectedly showing up at his children’s sporting events, or surprising the family with a weekday ski trip. Mark’s spontaneity was just another way he showed his affection toward his family.
At his core, Mark was a people person. He loved to talk to anyone about anything. If you were within earshot, he would strike up a conversation. He was light-hearted, warm, and had a great sense of humor. This is the part of his personality that shined brightly at his liquor store. Hence, it was hard work coupled with his personality that led to his business success. The store was more than just a job, it was a perfect place for Mark. All walks of life came through those doors, and he loved talking with all of them. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. He was a generous man, the type of person who would do anything for anybody if he thought he could help.
Mark loved boating, gardening, cooking, and spending time at the Jewish Community Center (JCC). He sailed a 26’ Pearson Commander for 20 years out of Marblehead Harbor and then switched over to a 28’ Aquasport Sportfisherman. He was an active member at the Marblehead Yacht Club, culminating with his role as Commodore in the late 1980s. His love for boating has carried through the generations as his son and grandsons are out on the water on any given summer day. He also enjoyed gardening. His plantings made a lasting impact on the family home in Marblehead. Another passion of his was food. He loved to cook and create his own recipes. It seemed like whenever you visited his home, there was an aroma of herbs and spices from a freshly cooked dish. At the JCC, he was a Chai member, and you could always find him kibitzing with the other members
He will be missed.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Reuben; his mother Celia; his brother Julian; and his sister Miriam. He is survived by his wife Amy; his two sons Judd (Leah) and Daniel (Djo Darwanto); his grandchildren Hana, Elijah and Noah; his nieces Alison d’Amato and Caren Kramer Elias; and his nephews, Julian Lander and Michael Kramer.
A graveside service is planned for Tuesday, June 1st at 11:00 am at Temple Israel Cemetery, 506 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA. Friends and family are invited to his late residence following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The JCC or The American Heart Association via websites listed below
