Melvin A. Graff, 95, of Revere, MA, formerly of Peabody, MA, passed away at his home in the Jack Satter House on August 30, 2021. Born in Chelsea, MA, Melvin is predeceased by his father, Samuel, mother, Frances, and sister, Shirley (Hillson). He is survived by his beloved wife, Eve (Silverman), and leaves his loving sons, Stuart, and wife Jacqueline (Halfon) of Danvers, MA; Howard, and wife Rose (Baker) of Hampton, NH; and youngest son Mitchell, of Somerville, MA. He also leaves adoring grandchildren Jason, Sam, and Shelley.
Mel grew up in Roxbury, MA, before serving his country in the Philippines in World War II. He spent his formative years as the co-owner of Graff Textile Co., Inc. in Boston with his father, where he enjoyed cultivating many relationships over the years. In 1949, he would meet Eva Silverman, the love of his life. For 71 years, Mel was a devoted and adoring husband who shared everything and rarely, if ever, spent time apart. She was his soulmate, a match made in heaven.
In retirement, he worked as a volunteer for Lahey Clinic and was happy to put a smile on the patient’s faces. Always surrounded by friends, even brief acquaintances were drawn to his smile, his stories, and his good nature. Mel had many interests: His beloved big band music, always on in the background, provided a soundtrack to his life. He loved to travel with his wife Eve, to play cards and word games, and to entertain their many cherished friends. Mel had a zest for life and approached each day with a positive attitude, which was his trademark. Perhaps his greatest passion was reserved for the Boston Red Sox. He rarely missed an inning, a devoted fan ever since his father first took him to Fenway Park in 1933. Mel was, quite proudly, even honored by the team on a very special day shortly before his passing.
Due to regulation imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, a private graveside service will be held.
A private shiva will take place following the service.
