

On Sunday June 13, 2021, Rhoda Schwartz, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in Swampscott, Massachusetts at the age of 79. Rhoda grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where she was born on May 4, 1942, the daughter of Vivian and Irving Gladstein. She studied the natural sciences and majored in biology at Brooklyn College, receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1963. She continued by doing graduate work in science education at New York University, receiving her master’s degree in 1966. Rhoda was a dedicated teacher and taught science for over 35 years, primarily at the junior high school level in New York City. She was on the faculty of Van Wyck J.H.S. in Queens for over 30 years. Rhoda was a wonderful and devoted wife of her husband Joel, to whom she was married for nearly 55 years. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Mark and his wife Cathy of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and George and his wife Janna of Swampscott. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. Rhoda and Joel lived in Kew Gardens, Queens for many years and moved to Swampscott during the pandemic in the past year. Rhoda will be greatly missed by her family and all of those whose lives she touched.
