Robert S. Vernick, 75, of Swampscott, the loving son of the late Henrietta (Becker) and Leo Vernick, passed away peacefully on March 12, surrounded by his beloved wife, Sherry, and their children: Robyn and her partner, Cyndi; David; Scott and his partner Tim; and Derek. He was the cherished Papa of Aryanna, Tyler and Lily.
Bob grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School and Bowdoin College. He then began working with his father at Colonial Wood Heel in Lynn which eventually evolved into Colonial Findings and, finally, RSV Enterprises. During the 60’s, he earned his M.B.A. from Boston University. For many years he was actively involved as a member of the Shoe Service Institute of America, including co-chairing, with his wife, Sherry, at an annual conference in Boston.
Bob was warm, compassionate, patient and easy-going with an ever-present smile for all. His love of the ocean began with fishing with his dad and continued with taking friends and family out on his boat. His weekly poker games and golfing were additional passions along with movies and dinners with Sherry and friends on weekends. His favorite walking and TV companion was Brady, his golden retriever. He loved the telephone and devoted hours every day connecting with family and friends anxious to hear about what was happening in their lives and with customers, a little about business, but more often to chat.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob with a memorial service Sunday, March 23rd at 11am at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel in Salem. Immediately following, everyone is invited to the family residence. In lieu of flowers donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970 or to a charity of your choice.
