Sylvia H. Glovsky, 87, daughter of the late Abraham and Ruth Glovsky, died peacefully at the Brudnick Center for Living operated by the Chelsea Jewish Foundation in Peabody, Massachusetts. Sylvia, a long-time resident of Beverly, Massachusetts, died on November 30, 2016.
Sylvia was born on April 27, 1929 and attended Beverly schools, graduating from Beverly High School in 1955. She was particularly proud of that fact because she suffered lifelong from cerebral palsy as a result of a birth defect. Other accomplishments which most thought she could never achieve were getting her driver’s license and learning to swim.
Sylvia loved her family and friends to whom she sent cards for every occasion. She maintained a positive attitude in the face of her physical limitations and never let them determine how she lived.
She worked as a clerk at Glovsky & Glovsky in Beverly for many years and volunteered for many organizations, most of them centered around Temple B’Nai Abraham in Beverly. She was a lifelong member of Haddassah, the sisterhood and received awards from those organizations as she rose in offices within them. Sylvia loved the Red Sox and was delighted to enjoy the three World Series won after the long draught. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her three brothers, Henry, William and Bertram, and her nephew, Alan. She leaves her three sisters-in-law, Natalie Glovsky, Beverly Glovsky and Lia Glovsky and her nephews, John, Mark, Richard, Robert, Charles, Steven and Roger, and her niece, Patricia.
Burial services were private. Remembrances in her name may be sent to the Chelsea Jewish Foundation, 201 Captains Row, Chelsea, MA 02150, earmarked for the Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody, Massachusetts, or the March of Dimes Foundation, March of Dimes National Office, 275 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605.
