

A celebration of life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Salem, Oregon. A private family interment will be held at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.
Carma was born on April 12, 1922 to Percy and Cita Ottaway in Aurora, OR. She attended Aurora grade school, Canby High School and Oregon State College.
Carma married C. Max Doan in November, 1941, just before the Pearl Harbor attack. After the war, the family lived in Toledo, Oregon until they moved to Salem in 1950. Carma worked for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in Salem from 1961 until retirement in 1985. Carma married Les Koch in 1980. They spent 10 years traveling in a motor home spending winters near McCallen, Texas. Les passed away in May, 1991.
Her children and grandchildren loved her pies and home cooking. Carma enjoyed gardening and reading and she was a skilled seamstress. Solitaire and jigsaw puzzles were also a favorite pastime. Carma never wanted to leave Salem often saying “I would miss my Statesman Journal too much”!
Carma was a member of Bustles & Beaus Square Dance Club, South Salem Garden Club, Salem Ladies Elks Club, Eastern Star and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Carma’s family is especially grateful for the special care given to their Mom over the years at Avamere Court in Keizer and most recently at Clare Bridge in Bend, Oregon. Special thanks to those who have visited, phoned and sent expressions of love to Carma over the years.
Surviving family include son, Ron Doan and wife Mary Jane of Roseburg, Oregon and daughter, Sunni York and husband Len of Redmond, Oregon. Grandchildren and families include: Scott & Kristin Doan (Tatam & Kol) and Quinn & Sydne Doan (Luke, Barrett, Drew) of Portland, Chris & Dani Doan (Alec, Cade & Davis) of Bend, Kyle & Heather Doan (Hannah & Lauren) of Seattle. Also, Staci & Alan Menard (Anatole) of Denmark, and Zach Burgess (Brenna) of Corvallis. Carma also enjoyed her 12 great-grandchildren, three nephews and six nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Orren Ottaway (Bea), and Hollis Ottaway (Clara), of Dallas Oregon.
