David Herbert Borup passed away on Dec. 14 after a brief battle with cancer. Dave was born in Concord, California to Herbert and Dionne Borup. He spent his early years enjoying the Bay Area with family and friends. Following his graduation from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, Dave moved to Oregon to attend Eastern Oregon State College. From there, he married and moved to the Willamette Valley to farm.
Dave had a great love for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting and especially golf. He spent many hours on the farm perfecting his game and teaching others. He was an artist at heart and would often find inspiration in a piece of wood and turn it into a thing of beauty. When he was done farming, he moved to Bandon to enjoy more golf, agate hunting, fishing and many games of pool on the Southern Oregon Coast.
Dave was quick to make friends wherever he went. It was never a surprise when he started to strike up a conversation with a stranger. His friends, new and old, and his family and his children will miss him greatly but find comfort in the memories of special times spent with him.
Dave is survived by his children, his mother Dionne Borup of Clovis, Calif., his sister Margaret Dominguez (Bobby) also of Clovis, brothers Jeff Borup (Mona) of Hayward, Calif. and Jim Borup of Shingle Springs, Calif. His father, Herb, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Feb. 3, 2024, at Zio Fraedo’s in Pleasant Hill at 2:00 p.m.
Best said by Robert Hunter, “Fare you well, fare you well. I love you more than words can tell. Listen to the river sing sweet songs. To rock my soul.”
