

Salem - David Ernest Crockatt was born on January 9, 1930 in Baker, Oregon. He passed away on Feb. 24, 2022 in Salem, OR at the age of 92. David's family moved to the Salem area during the 1930's depression. David graduated from Salem High School (now North HS) in 1947, followed by the University of Oregon, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Geology , Business and ROTC in 1952.
Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army as a 2nd Lt, spending a year in the Korean conflict. After honorable discharge as a Captain.he joined Meier and Frank Co. in Portland as a department manager. He moved back to Salem in 1955 to join Gerry Frank in the opening of the new Salem store. Soon after, he met Kathleen Busick and they were wed in 1963.
David and Kathy joined Illahee C.C., took up tennis and golf. David found time to serve his community. That service commitment found him engaged in activities and board member responsibilities with friends of Deepwoods, Boys Scouts of America, he started the Cancer Relay for Life in Salem, and spent several years on the committee of the Open Heart Open, golf tournament fundraiser for the American Heart Association and later in life he delivered for Meals on Wheels. David received the distinguished service award from the Salem Chamber of Commerce in 2001.
He moved his family to Corvallis to start his own clothing store "Crockatt's Man Shop". Ultimately settling in Albany. After his children graduated from high school, he and Kathy moved back to the Salem area then in 1993 Kathy passed away. David came out of retirement to sell Real Estate for a few years.
David's friends and family will always remember him as an avid sportsman. There he enjoyed fishing, hunting for fossils and collectible rocks (his true passion). Later in life he spent more time cooking, gardening, adding whimsy to the landscape. Watching the neighborhood birds and squirrels that he fed. He also loved to sing in the Westminster Presbyterian Church choir.
Most of all he will be remembered as a true gentleman, David Crockatt!
He is survived by: Son, Michael Crockatt, wife Lynn, Daughter Kate Nolte, husband Chris.
Grandchildren, David S. Crockatt, Kathleen Crockatt and Holly Adams.
