Donna Mae Hanson

Donna Mae Hanson, 89, of Salem, Oregon went to Heaven on April 30, 2023. Donna was born to Ethel and George Schuett on February 12, 1934. Donna was born at home, in the Eola, Hills in West Salem. Donna married and had three children, Dale, Dana and DeLeah. Dale preceded Donna in death in 1999. Donna was a devoted mother who returned to school in her 30’s in order to provide for her family. She became a nurses assistant and built her career of almost 40 years at Salem Hospital. She made many lifelong friends at Salem Hospital.

Donna is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, two grandchildren, Heidi Timmons and Caleb Stratemeyer, and two great grand daughters, Ada and Clarke. Donna was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Davis in 2016, whom she loved very much. Jerry and Donna were best friends growing up and their special bond continued their whole lives. Donna was also preceded in death by her step brother Wayne Youman. Donna was very fond of Wayne. Donna considered herself very blessed with her two brothers. Good memories were made when the families came together and all the cousins were together. Donna leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She loved to keep up on what was going on with everyone in the family whether they were in Oregon or not. Hearing stories about what her grandchildren and great grandchildren were doing, brought her lots of joy.

Some of Donna’s favorite things in no particular order- pasta, trees, any animal (we know her squirrels are really going to miss her!), See’s candy, flowers, country music, nature in the beautiful outdoors, painting ceramics with her friends, cooking, farm animals, her children, grandchildren and great grand children, crafts of all kinds, and lets not forget how much she loved a good clearance sale!!

Donna will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She was a very generous person and an amazingly strong woman. This quote was found in her handwriting in her “book of important stuff”-

“Thy worries are few because my blessings are many”.

Graveside service at Donna’s request will be held May 30, 2023 at 3 pm at Belcrest Cemetery in Salem, Oregon.
