Frederick "Fred" Athel Barber was born in Goodman, Wisconsin on December 30th 1929, months later his parents moved back to their home in Shingleton, Michigan, where he spent the remainder of his childhood until he joined the Army on February 13th, 1951. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged after the war. Fred then moved to California where he met and married his wife Laura in 1961. Fred started his career as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic which took him and his wife Laura on many adventures all over. Fred loved his work and was very proud of what he did. Fred was a member of the Operating Engineers Union since 1963. Fred and Laura finally laid their roots in Salem, Oregon where they retired and enjoyed their Basset Hounds and love of gardening. Fred passed peacefully on August 7th 2021. Fred is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Laura, his brother Wayne and his sisters Mary, Lorena, Katy, Eva and Rose. Fred is loved and will be missed by many. A private celebration of life with family will be held at a later date.
