

George was born on September 9, 1939 in DuBois, PA to Melvel and Sara Phillips. He was one of eight children. George went to high school at McKeesport High and graduated in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy right after high school, where he enjoyed several years on the USS DYESS getting to explore the world. Once George was honorably discharged, he moved to Oregon with his brother for a job opportunity at Teledyne Wah Chang. It was at this time he met his wife, Emma Epps. Emma and George started their family together and George went on to finish his career in 2002 with Teledyne Wah Chang as a supervisor.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Family was everything to George and he made sure to instill this value in all of his daughters.
George was also a volunteer fire fighter for Jefferson Fire Department for many years, as well as serving on the fire board of directors.
George is survived by his 3 daughters Pamela Jurgens, married to Troy Jurgens, Deanna (Dee) Humphries married to Mitchell Humphries and Nicole Watson married to David Watson. He is survived by his grandchildren as well, Wyatt and Cody Jurgens, Melissa Martz, Keeton, Ava and Brooke Humphries, Kyle and Hayden Michael, Robbie and Billy Watson. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Hazel Emmalou Martz. George’s surviving siblings are Janet, Gayle, Pam, Danny and Rick. He is predeceased by his wife Emma Phillips, his brothers Donny, Ed and his parents Melvel and Sara Phillips.
A private family flag ceremony will be held at Virgil T. Goldens in Salem OR. Condolences can be sent to Virgil T. Goldens Funeral Home 605 commercial St. Salem OR 97301. At George’s request, no service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
