Greg Raymond Bradstreet, 70, of Salem, Oregon passed away June 2, 2021 at Salem Hospital. Greg was born on July 10, 1950 in Roseburg, Oregon to Brand and Lillian Bradstreet, their only child. Greg was raised in a logging camp, Rock Creek, just outside Glide, Oregon. Even late in life, Greg believed this had been the best place to be raised. He loved playing in the woods and on the “big trucks” with his cousins and friends.
He attended Glide schools and played sports, as soon as he could. He played basketball, baseball, and football. He also played the trumpet in the Glide HS Dance Band. He loved Louie Armstrong and big band music and could even sing like Louie.
Greg attended Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon, on a basketball scholarship, where he earned his Associates Degree. Greg met Leigh Finck, who was also attending Columbia Christian College. They married December 27, 1970.
Greg completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University) and later his Master’s Degree. He was hired at Talmadge Middle School as a 7th grade block teacher; where he taught reading, social studies, and English for 31 years. Greg’s love of sports carried over into his teaching career. He coached basketball (which was his passion), baseball, volleyball, football, and softball at the middle school and/or high school levels. He regretted retiring, because he loved teaching, coaching, and missed the kids.
When Greg’s children were younger, he would work during the summer school break. Greg worked on the school district’s paint crew, where they would paint various buildings and classrooms. Greg also worked on his brother and sister-in-law’s farm in Eastern Washington, driving combine.
After his retirement from public school teaching, Greg became the Director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) of the Willamette Valley. He was able to pair his love of teaching, coaching, and sharing his love for God. He loved visiting coaches throughout the valley, encouraging them, and watching the different games. He enjoyed catching up with past students, players, coaches, and looked forward to the weekly FCA bible studies.
For the past 12 years, Greg served as a University Supervisor for Teacher Candidates to Western Oregon University and Linfield College students in their Master of Teaching programs.
Greg was a member of Salem Alliance Church and Family Ties Community Group.
Greg and Leigh celebrated 50 years of marriage in December 2020, by having their kids and grandkids join them for a week at Black Butte Ranch. Greg loved his family and worked hard to take care of them. He coached all of his children and even helped them coach his grandchildren. Greg believed it was important to instill in his children a strong work ethic, responsibility, and care for people.
Before Greg went on a ventilator, he assured his family that he had a long talk with Jesus and was in a good place. He had been reading Psalm 91 and was at peace.
Greg’s passing will leave a huge void in his family’s lives. We take great comfort in knowing he is not in pain, he is at peace, and in his forever home, with Jesus, his savior.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Salem Alliance Church at 2:00pm on June 14, 2021.
