August 15, 1923 - January 22, 2013
Hazel was born on August 15, 1923 in Ashford Hill, England. She was one of ten children born to Napoleon and Malena Hutchins. She met her husband Elwood while he was stationed in England at the end of WWII and they married on July 15, 1945. She came to Salem as a bride at the beginning of 1946. She became a member of the Accent Club. This membership was made up of ladies who came to this country as war brides from different countries and she remained as a member until her death. She and her husband remained in Salem to 1966 when they relocated to Hawaii for several years where she became a Tour Director for AAA. She accompanied tourists on trips around the islands of the South Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia. Upon retirement she and Elwood moved to New Zealand and they then returned to Salem in 1986.
She loved to garden and was extremely knowledgeable about plants and flowers and always had a lovely English garden.
She is survived by her husband, Elwood; son Michael; brothers Michael Hutchins of Salem, Tom of Florida, and Babs of England; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
To all who knew and loved her, we were truly blessed.
