Karen Shoop, 75, passed away peacefully, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family on Tuesday morning at home.
Karen was born in Portland, Oregon to Frank & Elaine McMenamin. She was the 2nd of 8 children. She attended Madeleine Grade School & graduated from Holy Child Academy in NE Portland. She also attended Portland Community College earning her Licensed Practical Nursing degree.
Karen was passionate and loved her nursing career. She worked in Portland, Montana, California, & Washington. She served and cared for many patients and their families. Karen retired from the NICU department at Harrison Memorial Hospital (now St. Michael Medical Center) in Silverdale, Washington. She loved her “premie’s”!
Karen was a special needs foster mom, sweet friend, compassionate sister, supportive mom, warmhearted grandma and loving wife.
She and her husband of 27 years, Norman “Jerry” Shoop, spent the last several years traveling the western states in their RV, sharing with their 2 cocker spaniels, Mandy & Charger.
They loved to visit friends & family along the way. They always took the long way around or the back roads searching for more adventures together.
Karen's passions included gardening, cooking & baking for her family, walking and cuddling her dog, Charger. She embraced her faith & prayed every day.
Karen is survived by her daughter Denise Varieur (David); her grandsons: Ryan & Timothy Varieur; her sisters: Colleen Peterson (Darryl), Kathy Kelly (Mike), Molly McMenamin; brothers: Kevin McMenamin (Carol), Barry McMenamin (Mary), Jimmy McMenamin and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry McMenamin, beloved husband Jerry and his dog Mandy. She was so loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held on July 13th.
