Larry Damon Dean

Larry was born to Wanda and Willard Dean on July 10th, 1960, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. When he turned 6, his family moved to Tuscaloosa, AL where he enjoyed the next three years exploring the sprawling forest that was his backyard with his brothers and sister. Here he developed his love for independence and being outdoors. Later the family moved to California where he enjoyed going to the beaches, mountains, and deserts with friends and family, or alone when he wanted solitude.

After graduating from Norco High in 1978 he moved to Oregon to begin his career and establish his life. Larry served his community for over 30 years as a Paramedic, Firefighter, Captain, SWAT Team Medic, member of the Technical Rescue/Urban Search and Rescue team, Water Rescue team (including Rescue Boat Operator,) Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, Wildland Engine Boss, Strike Team Leader, and Fire Education Instructor. After retiring in December 2018, he moved to Wyoming where he continued to enjoy his passion for the great outdoors.

Despite Larry’s remarkable professional achievements, he excelled even more as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His zest for life and adventure was contagious, and he delighted in sharing that passion with everyone around him. His diverse interests included activities that could connect with anyone he met, from camping, hunting, and fishing to scuba diving, hiking, and many other hobbies. Larry’s talents were unlimited—whether it was baking biscuits and scones in the morning, assisting a friend in the afternoon, or crafting baby cradles or a new bow in the evening.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kaare Dean, his three children, two grandchildren, mother, sister, and two brothers.

He was our best friend, son, brother, father and grandfather. We will miss him greatly.

Family and Friends are invited to attend his memorial service at Morning Star Community Church on September 21st, 2024, at 11:00 located at 4775 27th Ave SE, Salem, OR 97302.
