Luis is survived by his 5 children, Luis Jr, Michael, Tina, Armando, and Krystal. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Cruiz, Isabella, Justin, Kaila, Frankie, Aiyana, and a great grandfather to Luna, Kaizen, Nyjah, and Violet, his 4 surviving sisters Dora, Victoria, Aida, Raquel and 4 surviving brothers Javier, Gabriel, Aaron, Abraham and of course several non biological grand children, and those related by marriage that he loved dearly in which they will all carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. He was preceded in death by his wife Terri Lavon Castillo.
As a Vietnam War two time tour veteran, Luis served his country with honor. After his service, he dedicated his career to working as a corrections officer. He will always be our war hero.
Luis had a zest for life that extended far beyond his work. He found joy in fishing, hunting, camping, barbecuing, he was always eager to embrace the outdoors for a walk or adventure with his grand children. Luis loved watching wrestle mania on his down time along with the Oregon ducks football team. He had to have his morning news paper and fresh cup of coffee by 5 am, as he would say the early bird gets the worm. He had a talent for being the glue to those around him and always making sure they had a smile on their face.
Above all, Luis was a wonderful human being—patient, wise, generous, and infused with a remarkable sense of humor. The neighborhood and surrounding friends and family knew who to come to when they ran into an issue. Rarely was he ever called by his name but always called dad or grandpa.
One of his most treasured traditions was hosting an event for his loved ones, birthday parties, holidays, paper view, sporting events where he loved to entertain his family and friends. With that being said, you knew that the stove was hot or the grill was hot, and the cooler was full of everyone’s “poison” or preferred drink lol!
The world has lost one of the best men to have walked this earth, but his spirit lives on in the love he shared and the countless lives he touched. If love could’ve saved him, he would’ve lived forever. Luis leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. As he would say, you snooze you lose, rest easy dad/grandpa.
