Margaret Allen Carey

At 96, Margaret Allen Carey joined her Lord and Savior and concluded her distinguished life story on March 24th, 2022. She devoted her life to her faith in God and to her family. Mother to six children, Arthur (wife Beverly Carey), Jennifer, Mary K (Husband David Dieker, Ross (wife Suzanne Carey), Bruce (husband Joe Rogers) and Susan, grandmother to eleven, great grandmother to nine, Margaret's integrity and generosity will impact many future generations.

Margaret was born in LaGrande Oregon on June 27th, 1925 to Lester and Gwendolyn Allen. Her family, which included her siblings Bette, Dick and Gilbert, moved to Salem where she lived at home through her college years. She attended Willamette University, achieving a bachelors degree and was elected May Queen in 1945. On a blind date Margaret Allen met her future husband of 28 years, Robert Hopkins Carey. The handsome couple were married in Salem on February 23rd, 1952 at St. Josephs Catholic Church.

After raising her children, Margaret Carey got her license to sell real estate which began a long and successful career, earning "Most Professional Agent" awards at Coldwell Banker for several consecutive years. She was known for her ethical and highly principled manner with her clients and co-workers. Her bright sense of humor delighted the multitude of people she came to call friend.

Margaret will join her parents, her siblings and in-laws: Bette, Dick and Rosanne, Gilbert and June, as well as her oldest son Art in the arms of our Lord in heaven.

Visitation/Rosary for this beautiful woman will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, March 28th at Howell Edwards funeral home, 1350 Commercial St SE Salem. Funeral Service will occur 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 29th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 721 Chemeketa St. NE, Salem, followed by a procession and brief graveside service at the Belcrest Memorial Park, 1295 Browning Avenue S, Salem. A reception will follow 12:30 pm at Illahe Hills Country Club, 3376 Country Club Drive S., Salem.
