Merttie was known as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and taught Sunday school at Emmanuel Bible Church for 40 years. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially doing projects with her grandchildren, like making cinnamon rolls. She found joy in gardening, camping, fishing, golf, handiwork and travel. Her family describes her as caring, generous, loving and “the best mom”.
Merttie is preceded in death by her mother, Alma (Lowry); father, Otis Phillips; sisters, Neoma and Cleora; and brother, Otis. She is survived by her husband, Alton Roth; son, Russ (Denise) Roth; daughter, Sally (Robert) Zirschky; sisters, Marie Benz of Salem, Geri Friezie of Bend and Brenda Compton of Salem. She was also blessed with five grandchildren.
A private Graveside Service will be at Pratum Cemetery. A Memorial Service will held March 5 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Bible Church in Pratum.
