

“Nick” Nicholas Constancio Vera Crus was born on October 28, 1929 in Hanamulu, Kauai, Hawaii to Nicolas and Margarita “Margaret” Bonilla Vera Cruz. He was the first born of six children; Victoria “Toya” (Harley) Barentine of Highland, CA, Violet (Frank) Morehouse, deceased of Medford, OR, Gladys (Harold “Smitty”) Smith of Elgin, TX, Stanley (Lois) Vera Cruz of Naples, NC, Robert “Rocky” (Molly) Vera Cruz of Temecula, CA.
He leaves behind his wife Sharee Blaine, his children; Jerold “Jerry” Vera Cruz, Steven Vera Cruz, Eric Vera Cruz, Vanessa Vera Cruz, and Penny Brewer, step-children; Sharon Fergeson, Denise Henry, Marty Blaine, and Jeremy Blaine, Grandchildren; Kyle Vera Cruz, Sierra Vera Cruz, Stephanie Vera Cruz, Nicole Vera Cruz, and Krystal Seslar.
Nick was a member of the East Salem Seventh Day Adventist church. He was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran. He retired from the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai, Hawaii. He volunteered at the Newport Aquarium, Silver Falls State Park, Oregon Garden, Salem Riverfront Carousel, and Willamette Valley Hospice. He went on many Maranatha Mission trips, made and gave away 149 music boxes, and designed and planted East Salem SDA church grounds.
Nick will be laid to rest on January 26, 2018 at Willamette National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 27th at 3pm at the East Salem Seventh Day Adventist Church on Fruitland Road. Arrangements are by Howell Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
