

She was born on September 1, 1948, the eldest of 3 children to Edward and Dorothy (Green) Phinney in Warren, Ohio. She grew up on Music Street in Russell, Ohio and graduated from West Farmington High School. She attended technical college at Missoula VoTech and was certified as a respiratory therapist. It was there she met Jerry Managhan, and they were later wed on June 24, 1978. They lived in Montana, and moved to Salem, Oregon in 1983. She worked as a manager of food services, working for the Fairview Training Center, Salem-Keizer School District, the Oregon School of the Blind, and the Oregon School of the Deaf. After her retirement, she worked as a crossing guard, as she loved serving children. Susan loved Alpine Ski Racing, and was a member of the Mt. Hood Meadows Race Team for many years, volunteered for the Mission Ridge Ski Team and served on the board of the Pacific Northwest Ski Education Foundation. Susan loved to cook, and she loved to serve her pork enchiladas to her ski family. She was also known for her home made spaghetti sauce, and was also known as the “Pie Lady”- as she loved to make Marionberry pies and share them with her campsite friends. She loved to travel, and loved camping in Oregon and Arizona. She adored her loving kitty Rosie.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jerry; son Sean A. Managhan; grandsons Sean S. Managhan and Gage Managhan; mother, Dorothy Phinney; brothers, Patrick Phinney and Michael Phinney; and her cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Shannon Managhan in 1996.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 21, at 1 pm at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
