

Richard was born to Joseph and Edna Buntjer in Alsen, North Dakota on February 18, 1930. He was one of 11 children. Joining the United States Army on July 11, 1951 just 5 months after his 21st birthday, he served his country honorably in Japan and Korea, receiving his discharge on June 24, 1953. Richard moved to Salem, Oregon after his military service. Richard then married Beulah Towers they had three children, they were married 22 years. Richard worked as a meat cutter and meat inspector for the State and later a custodian for the Salem-Keizer School District. He went on to marry Frances Rohn on June 28, 1981 enjoying 31 wonderful years of marriage together. Richard was a humble man, taking the time to show appreciation for everything in his life. He was a member of Westgate Assembly of God church here in Salem. In his free time Richard loved camping, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. Richard's great sense of humor and vast story telling will be missed by all.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Frances on June 28, 2012. He is survived by 3 children, Kathy Buntjer, Mark (Karen) Buntjer, and Lisa (John) Fitzmaurice, 5 Step-Children, Allen (Virginia) Buntjer, Judy (Daryl) Towers, Dan (Carol) Buntjer, Gary (Fran) Buntjer, Tim (Andrea) Buntjer, numerous grand-children, Great Grandchildren, two sisters and a brother.
A Memorial Service for Richard will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Directors, starting at 10am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Gibson Creek Assisted Living.
