

Dick was born March 19, 1929 in Salem, Oregon to John Herbert and Cora (Fischer) Plank. He attended Garfield Grade School, Parrish Junior High and graduated from Salem High School in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Ilene Merrick, on December 11, 1949 in Salem. They were married for 62 happy years. Together they raised two children.
Dick served three years in the Army earning the rank of sergeant. He went on to serve the community for 36 years as a Police Officer with the Salem Police Department as a patrolman, detective, Internal Affairs sergeant and School Liaison Unit supervisor.
Dick enjoyed annual deer and elk hunting trips over the years, highlighted by the trips when he could pack in with horses. He rode and cared for his horses for many years on the five acres he and Audrey owned east of Salem. After Dick’s retirement, he and Audrey enjoyed travel to many locations.
Dick is proceeded in death by his wife Audrey. He survived by his children James Plank and Joan Plank; and his beloved, adopted grandkids Marty Luckenbill and Maria Hylland.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 12 at 12:30 pm at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center, 7693 Wheatland Road N, Keizer.
Dick was loved and had many life-long friends. We just wish we had him for a bit longer.
