Robert L Compton

He was born June 22, 1934 in Belfair, Washington, to Fred and Margaret (Case) Compton. His early years were in the Puget Sound area. The family moved to Bellingham, Washington in approximately 1941, and eventually to a small dairy farm east of town. It was a wonderful place for the family of four lively Compton brothers to grow up. Bob graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1952, where he had participated in many sports and musical productions.

He received his bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College (Illinois), and returned to the Northwest to attend Western Baptist Seminary, where he graduated in 1959, and was ordained into Gospel Ministry. He married Susan Joy Underwood on December 19, 1959, at Milwaukie Baptist Church. Together, they served churches in California, Oregon and Idaho. After retiring from the pastorate, Bob and Susan were commissioned as chaplains with Nursing Home Ministries.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lee (JoAnn). He is survived by his wife Susan; brothers Jack (Georgia) and Terry (Kay); daughters Kathy (Tony) Pinkham, Karen (Mark) Wagner, and son Ken (Amy) Compton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Luke, Karissa (Gustavo), Anna (Nick), Trent (Laurel), Ben, Monica, Erik, Nathan, Joshua and Zac, as well as great-grandchildren Jeremy, Elizabeth, Maia, Isaiah, Cristina, and another one expected in February.

Bob will be greatly missed, and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family and friends who were blessed by his example, gift of music and ministry.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 13 from 1:00 to 5:00pm at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home, with private family burial at Restlawn on Friday, December 14. A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, December 14, at 1:00pm at Salem First Baptist Church, and all are invited to attend.
