

Robert was born in Colorado Springs, CO to Harold and Frieda Ervin on September 2, 1937. The family moved to Oregon when Bob was 7 years old. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1955. He enlisted in the US Navy that same year. He received five good conduct medals as well as advancing to Chief Petty Officer during the 20 years that he served. He attended Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, OR. and received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He worked at Salem Hospital for 19 years in security. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as being a rock hound.
Bob is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon; Daughter Catherine Petersen; Son Christopher (Lori) Van Nostrand; Brothers Brad (Joni) Weller and Marty (Linda) Christianson; Sister Sherry (Ken) Neiger; Sister in law Linda Haines; Brother in law Steven McMurtrie; Granddaughters Rachel Sams and Amber (Jason) Gielish; Grandsons Brady Van Nostrand, Sean Van Nostrand and Jason Gielish; Great grandson Austin Gielish; great grand-daughter Brynlee Aguliar; Nephews Chris (Jocelyn) McMurtrie and Troy (Susie) Surgeon; Nieces Kathi McDaniel, Maxine Jones (Brett) Cooper, Wendy (Mike) Back and Robin Garland and numerous nieces and nephews in California, Michigan and Illinois.
Predeceased parents Harold "Slim" Ervin and Frieda Newman and Niece Carrie Surgeon.
Robert will be buried in Willamette National Cemetery at a date that will be determined later.
The family wished to extend their gratitude to Melissa Arnett, Michelle Binkley and Cathy Petersen for their kindness and excellent care they gave Bob "Grampy" in his time of need.
