He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on September 17, 1937. Ray left school after the 9th grade and eventually joined the Navy at the age of 17, serving his country for 4 years. Despite never having graduated high school, Ray went on to have a family and become a successful business owner, partnering on many ventures with his long time business partner, Russ Hescock. Much of his retirement was spent in Sun City, Arizona, perfecting his golf game. Ray cherished his over 40 year membership at the Elks Lodge, and was an avid lover of the game of horseshoes, red beer, fishing and golf.
Ray was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Hawkins and his partner Marjorie Waugh. He is survived by his children, Mary Hawkins, Brenda Hawkins and Larry Hawkins, along with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Ray will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Restlawn Memory Gardens, 201 Oak Grove Rd NW, Salem, OR 97304.
