Sally was born in Flushing, NY and grew up in Whiting, IN.
She graduated from Arizona State University and had a career as a creative and dedicated elementary and middle school teacher. She spent nearly 20 years in the Santa Monica / Malibu School Districts, teaching at John Muir Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Malibu Park. She was married to Norman Bone for almost 40 years, living in Pacific Palisades, CA, before retiring to Salem, OR in 2000.
Throughout her life, she had a passion for music and singing. She was active with Sweet Adelines for more than 60 years and competed (and won) with a quartet, as well as serving as the director of several choruses over the years. After she and Norm moved to Salem in 2000, Sally started the Sound Waves singing group. She led this multi-generational group of women as they entertained at events and for organizations throughout the Willamette Valley – amassing over 300 sing-outs. She dedicated her life to music and bringing people together through song. Her passion, leadership, and love for singing shaped countless groups and touched lives in a lasting way.
She was also an avid reader, animal lover and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her smile and crazy sense of humor were ever-present and she was always ready for a good adventure.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents Jay Stanley and Helen Creswell, husband Norman Bone, children Scott Sipperly and Brian Bone, and brother Neil Creswell. She is survived by children (and spouses) Jill Mercado, Nancy (and Jim) McIntyre, Cathleen (and Brian) Orcutt and Dennis (and Debi) Bone as well as many special grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Even as her health declined, she never lost her appreciation of people and her sense of humor. The family would like to thank the staff at Boone Ridge Assisted Living for their compassionate care during the last few years. There were so many dedicated caregivers and staff who provided excellent care and were a positive and bright spot in Sally’s everyday activities. Solterra Hospice has also been such a vital resource and has the most caring staff.
