Tom was born to Donald and Naomi Smith on November 1, 1946, in Salem, Oregon. Tom was raised in Salem and served his country as a member of the National Guard. On February 20, 1983, Tom married Virginia Lee Forse.
Together, Tom and Virginia worked hard raising and providing for their children Kathleen Kay and Scott Douglas. Tom worked for Coca-Cola for over 29 years until his retirement in 2003. After retirement, Tom and Virginia enjoyed traveling and “Snowbirding” with their many friends in sunny Arizona.
As a young boy, Tom enjoyed spending time on his grandfathers’ farm, which produced his deep love of the outdoors. He loved hunting, boating, camping, golfing, and fishing; he was a gifted gardener, ensuring his home’s beautifully landscaped and immaculately maintained yards were the pinnacle of the neighborhood; always rooted for the Oregon Ducks; and loved having a perfectly shined Jeep or truck tucked in the garage. Tom was a generous friend to many, never hesitant to lend a helping hand or share whatever he had to help those he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Virginia; son: Scott Smith of Dundee; daughter: Kathleen Hall of Terrebonne; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
In a private entombment, Tom will be laid to rest with his parents at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.
