Wendy was born on October 30, 1952, in Devon, New Brunswick, and passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Salem, Oregon, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Nevin, their three daughters, Emily (Del) Jessica, (Colin) and Erin (Jared) , and seven grandchildren: Weston, Kassidy, Evelyn, Emmitt, Seth, Charles, and Emerson. She also leaves behind her sister, Nancy, as well as her nephew, Billy, and niece, Sarah, along with their families. Wendy is predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Evelyn (Higgs) Estey.
Wendy, a dedicated and beloved educator, earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of New Brunswick and later, strengthened her skills, earning a Masters of Science from Walden University with a focus on early literacy. Throughout her career, she taught in various locations including Alberta, Canada, California, Washington and Oregon. Her classroom was a space of encouragement and curiosity where every child felt seen and valued.
When she was not teaching, she devoted her life to her three daughters, reminding them that family is a lifelong gift. Through her example, she showed her daughters how to move through the world with gratitude, grace, and an open heart as she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School Teacher and Handbell Choir Director when the girls were young.
Wendy believed in savoring the small things—quiet mornings, a flower blossom, the glow of a harvest moon, a chocolate bar and a snuggle with any dog, especially her own.
Her favorite season was Christmas, a time she filled with warmth, tradition and generosity. Her family will forever remember her excitement during the holidays and the way she made every moment feel magical, especially with her delicious baking and care as she decorated the family home with heirlooms every season.
She loved to watch the snow fall, but more than anything, Wendy loved warm weather, sunshine, and relaxing on the beach. She loved spending holidays with beloved family and friends on the beaches of Prince Edward Island, Vancouver Island, Hawaii, Florida, and California.
Wendy enjoyed travel, visiting many states in the US and provinces in Canada, as well as countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand to explore different natural environments and cultures together with Nevin. She traveled to visit her children and family wherever they were in the world including, London, New York, Boston and Doha.
While she enjoyed visiting new places, Wendy was incredibly happy at home where she cultivated beautiful gardens in all the homes in which she lived. She was able to grow stunning, bright and flourishing flowers and could often be seen tending to them with care — usually accompanied by her dogs. She loved nearly all animals, dedicating her time to feeding hummingbirds, calling to owls and watching deer who frequented the land around her house. Wendy was only a known enemy to gophers and moles that ravaged her garden.
Graceful in every sense, Wendy could light up a room simply by entering it. Her charm, warmth and etiquette made people feel welcome and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
All those who have known Wendy have been forever changed by her role in their lives as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed.
