William (Bill) George Edgar Fisher, Jr. was a devout Seventh-Day Adventist Christian and displayed a very deep love for his family. He passed away peacefully in this sleep on September 6th, 2024 at his home in Salem, OR. Bill was 63.
Bill was born on July 4th, 1961 in Ritzville, WA to William George Edgar Fisher, Sr. & Darlene Faye Fisher (Phelps). His faith in God and the Seventh-Day Adventist teachings were a guiding force for Bill. Lifelong health challenges tested that faith each and every day but he never lost sight of his knowledge that God had a plan for him.
Over the years, Bill had a variety of careers that always showcased his care for others and attention to detail. No matter what he was doing, Bill handled everything and everyone with care and made sure that the job was done right. Bill had many hobbies and interests he enjoyed. He loved motorcycles, airplanes, sports, music, camping with his family and building Lego with his kids and grandkids. His health kept him from his dream of being a pilot so he made sure he got his airplane fix in other ways. Annual trips to the Reno Air Races were a must and he’d hop in a family Stearman, Cessna or T6 for a ride whenever he could. Bill’s love of gospel music led him to The King's Heralds and he would attend their concerts whenever they came to town and was proud to call them his friends.
When Bill met Viki it became clear quite quickly that he had found his true partner and lifelong match. They were married on a beautiful August day in Roseburg, OR in 1996 and became a blended family of six. Viki, was his rock as they began their life together planning for their four children, ensuring his health was stable, sneaking in trips to the Oregon coast or camping in the Steens Mountains whenever possible and making the most out of each day. After having recently celebrated their anniversary, they were blessed to share 28 years of marriage together.
Family was deeply cherished by Bill and anyone around him knew that aside from Husband and Father, his absolute favorite role was that of being Papa/Grandpa/Big Meece. He would look forward to holidays and special events with child-like excitement because he knew he would be seeing his grandchildren. Their doodles, drawings and pictures would be saved and preserved as if they were the most precious of treasures. Through the years his kids had families and blended families of their own and it never mattered to Bill who the grandkids came from, he loved them all equally and without hesitation. There was always enough space in his big bear hugs and plenty of popcorn to share from his giant popcorn bowl.
In February of 2005, Bill became a kidney transplant recipient and affectionately gave himself and his daughter the nicknames “Uno” and “Tres”. It was a bond and a gift he cherished. The time he gained from that gift of life was precious to him and he never hesitated to proudly share this part of his journey with those around him.
Bill is survived by his wife Viki; his children Will, Laura, Kristin, Andy and their spouses; his grandchildren Georgette, Maggie, Izzy, James, Amelie, Claire, Trey & Damien; his mother Darlene Faye Fisher (Phelps); his siblings Darryl, Rhonda and their spouses; his niece, nephew and many more cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family members. Bill was preceded in death by his father William George Edgar Fisher, Sr.; his grandparents William Lavon Fisher & Dorothy Eleanor Fisher (Foley), nephew Zachary Fisher and aunt Kathy Stanley (Fisher).
A celebration of life for Bill will be held on Saturday, October 26th at the East Salem Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 5575 Fruitland Rd. NE, Salem, OR 97317. Services will begin at 4pm and be followed by a potluck reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s name to these organizations that sustained both his spiritual and physical health.
