Carol Gaye Christensen Peterson Lewis, age 83, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 30, 2014 in Holladay, Utah, due to incidence of age.
Carol was born on May 12, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Maurine Marcella Rich and Drewie Christensen. She had a wonderful childhood as the big sister to three younger brothers, Richard, David and Michael. Shortly after her birth her parents moved to Columbia, Utah where her father taught and was principal of the school. She was loved, adored and doted on by her dad. They later moved to Helper, Utah where Carol started school. Eventually they moved to Salt Lake City where she graduated from South High School. Carol met and married the love of her life, Reed Merrill Peterson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 19, 1950. He preceded her in death April 3, 1989. Carol and Reed enjoyed 38 years of marriage and had a wonderful life together raising their five children. Carol traveled the world but her favorite place on earth was their cabin home in beautiful Weber Canyon. Boating on Lake Powell, trips to Disneyland, Yellowstone and spending time at the cabin with the children and grandchildren are all precious family memories. Carol served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm faith and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. For many years she loved serving as a hostess at the Beehive House. She enjoyed exercising, tap dancing, sewing, crocheting afghans, playing the piano, she had beautiful penmanship and loved a nice walk and a nap. She made fabulous Thanksgiving Dinners that we all try to emulate. Carol worked as a secretary at the Granite School District Offices for many years. Her bubbly personality and love for everyone around her will be remembered. She married Jack Miller Lewis, June 22, 1992. Carol and Jack were world travelers and also traveled the country in their RV. They enjoyed playing golf and socializing with their friends in their ward at Air Force Village. In their 20 years of marriage Jack loved and embraced Carol’s extended family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They resided in Riverside, California at Air Force Village until his passing on April 16, 2012.
Carol is survived by her five children: Steven (SueAnn) Peterson, Brent C. Peterson, Robyn (Steven) Dunn, Craig (Stephanie) Peterson, Suzie (David) Matheson all of Salt Lake City; 22 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and one more on the way; brother David (Sharon) Christensen, sister-in-law Karen (Eldon) Louder, Lynda Christensen and Cheryl Peterson; many nieces and nephews and many members of the Jack Lewis family.
