Our beloved husband and father passed away peacefully on December 23, 2012.
Courtney was born June 10, 1931, to Willard and Gladys Huntsman at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Hazel Patricia Huntsman on March 8, 1963. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, Utah since 1962.
Courtney was an accountant by nature, and served many organizations with his talents and willingness to help. He was the treasurer for Camp Utaba for many years, and was past treasurer of the Utah Association of American Baptist Churches. He served on many boards at First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, and with the help of Dr. Earl Riley, became treasurer of the American Baptist Credit Union of Utah, which was located in his home until it was merged with Utah Coop Federal Credit Union, now known as Utah Federal Credit Union. Courtney was the president of Utah Federal Credit Union from 1977 until his retirement in 1997. Courtney enjoyed helping people out with loans and enjoyed all of his time at the credit union. Previous to running the credit union, Courtney worked at Bonneville Western for 5 years, Utah Wool Marketing for 28 years, Parker Packing for 3 years, Producers Livestock Loan for 2 years, and Utah Federal Credit Union for 20 years.
Courtney attended Lafayette Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, East High School, and the University of Utah.
Courtney enjoyed camping with family and friends of the Christian Camp Club up at Hawthorne and Camp Oakley. He enjoyed bowling on the First Baptist Church bowling league for many years at the Ritz Classic Bowling Alley. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Courtney drove the First Baptist Church bus, picking people up to go to church. The bus was called “The Nina Miller Express”.
Courtney cherished his time and association with all of the Masonic organizations he was involved with. In particular, Canyon Lodge #13, F.&A.M. in Midvale, where he was Worshipful Master for 2 years, and secretary for 25 years, and a member for 50 years At Canyon Lodge, he was the recipient of the Hiram Award, which was a complete surprise and was one of the highlights of his Masonic experience. Courtney was also a Shriner, being a member of the El Kalah Temple and member of the Chanters Unit. He was a member of Mizpah #5 OES of Salt Lake City (Past Patron from 1995-1996 and 2002-2003, with Henny Johnson, WM), Martha #7 OES of Midvale, and was a member of the Scottish Rite for 50 years. The Masonic family was very important to Courtney.
Courtney is survived by his two sons: Scott Huntsman (Tonya Blouin) and Doug Huntsman; Grandchildren: Randi Johnson (Joe), Britney Huntsman, and Ethan Huntsman; Sister: Clara Fritz; Sister-In-Law: Sandra Clegg (Jerry); Brother-In-Law: Jerry Hansen (Sharyl); Nephews: Carter Humphrey (Gwynne), Jeremy Hansen (Karen), Brad Fritz, Gary Fritz, and Terry Fritz (Bonnie Birrell); Nieces: Kristen Hansen and Celia Datteri (Dave).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at noon at First Baptist Church – 777 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City. Visitation will be one hour prior in the church parlor. Following the church service, lunch will be in the Keck Hall. Come and visit and celebrate Courtney’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Courtney to the First Baptist Church Foundation – 777 South 1300 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
