1930-2018
Dr. Donald A. Brooks passed away on October 5th at the age of 88. He was born September 17, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas Lawrence Brooks and LaVetta Allen Brooks. He loved his older brother and looked forward to the day he could meet his baby sister who died in infancy.
Don served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints to the Eastern States, loving his time serving at the Hill Cumorah. He loved sharing the gospel and taught for a time as a seminary teacher to the youth. The gospel became a big part of his life as he truly lived it. He lived a Christ like life and was an example to those around him. He truly loved everyone and you always left him knowing how much he loved you. His trademark became “I sure love you, you’re the best, give all your family my love.” He saw the goodness and beauty in everyone and never spoke negative of anyone.
He served in the US Army in Panama during the Korean War.
Don wanted to become a dentist since a child as he would often practice on his mother’s wooden kitchen chairs making holes and filling them in.
He attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University and Loyola University School of Dentistry.
He practiced dentistry in Salt Lake City and San Francisco, California. He served on the medical staff of LDS Hospital for 38 years and was a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He often provided his service to those who others wouldn’t and to those who didn’t have the means to repay.
One of the happiest times in his later life was when he served as a Temple Worker in the Salt Lake Temple up until the time he no longer was able.
Don is survived by nephews and nieces, Stephen (Sue) Brooks, DeAnn (Paul) Ashton, Kim (Judy) brooks, Chris (Dodi) Brooks and sister-in-law Mary Brooks. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonita, brother Allen Brooks and sister-in-law Bonnie Brooks.
