Miles was born September 18, 1940 in Roosevelt, Utah to Elmo and MaRee Nelson. Miles was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a full-time mission in London, England. Following his mission, Miles attended the University of Utah where he received his undergraduate degree, and continued on to the University of Utah Law School, where he received his law degree. It was during this time that Miles met and married the love of his life, Dana Nelson (Marshall) in the Salt Lake Temple.
A job in the Maricopa County attorney’s office brought Miles and Dana to Phoenix, Arizona. Miles spent 28 years as a prosecutor and leader of many of the attorneys in the office. Miles spent another 20 years as a judge for Maricopa County, a position which he loved.
Life was an adventure with Miles. Whether you liked to ski the highest mountains or boat in the roughest waters, Miles was there. He loved to fly his airplane, even when it didn’t have fuel and he had to land on city roads. Miles loved to golf, especially with his brother, Paul, and friends. Miles was always the life of the party; family and friends always looked forward to spending time with Miles. Miles has passed through this life’s adventure and is on to the next.
Miles was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and MaRee Nelson, and son John Miles Nelson. He is survived by his wife Dana, children Kathryn and Michael, brother Paul, sisters MaReen and Pam, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
