Gary White Emery passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018, surrounded by the women he loved most, his mother, wife and daughters. Gary died from diabetic complications, but had other contributing factors including Myeloid Dysplastic Syndrome and Congestive Heart Failure. The last several years Gary struggled with many health challenges. However, he faced these challenges with courage, dignity and with the love and support of his family.
Gary was born February 25, 1950, to Alfred Charles Emery and Belva White Emery. Gary graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Accounting in 1974. He loved the “U” and worked there for just over 40 years. It was during the course of his employment that he met Sara Morgan. They married on June 1, 1979. Together they raised two beautiful daughters. He loved his family dearly and delighted in spending time together.
Gary was a kind and gentle person. He lived his life with grace, honor and integrity. Gary was also a natural and gifted athlete. He loved sports and loved playing them. In his youth basketball was his passion, in later years it was golf. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed many fishing vacations at the family cabin in Island Park, Idaho.
Gary is survived by Sara, his wife of 39 years, his two daughters, Morgan (Alex Phillips) and Courtney and his two beloved grandchildren, Elliott and Ava. His mother and his brothers, Ace (Linda), Jim (Julie) and Michael, also survive, as do ten nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate and honor Gary will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the LDS Parleys Stake Center, 1870 Parleys Canyon Blvd., Salt Lake City. A viewing and a family gathering will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. An additional viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
