1926 ~ 2018
Gordon Morrison Olch, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on November 30, 2018.
Gordon was born on April 19, 1926 to Warren and Ruth Olch in Providence, Rhode Island. Gordon grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and attended Northeastern University. On January 5, 1947, Gordon married Marcia Karp. They were happily married for 66 years. Marcia Olch passed away on September 4, 2013.
During the 1950's and 1960's, Gordon and his father became start-up partners in the real estate business, commencing as single-family home builders, and evolving to renovation and new construction of apartment buildings and industrial warehouses. In 1971, Gordon and Marcia moved from New England to Salt Lake City. That same year, Gordon, along with a partner, acquired the Freeport Center in Clearfield, Utah.
In 1989, Gordon and Marcia moved to Park City. Gordon loved to ski and was frequently the first person on the lift when Deer Valley opened each day. From an early age, he felt a passion for fine automobiles. Gordon and Marcia loved to travel and were greatly interested in the arts.
Gordon's calm demeanor, unique sense of humor and uplifting spirit was an inspiration to everyone. Unassuming and exceedingly generous, Gordon often helped individuals in need without fanfare. He was a major donor to the University of Utah, its hospital, the Moran Eye Center, the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, the IHC Hospital in Park City, and numerous other institutions. It is doubtful a better husband or father ever existed and he was loved and admired by all who knew him.
He was beloved by his surviving sons Bradley Olch, Jonathan Olch and his wife, Victoria; grandchildren Whitney Olch Bishop (and her husband, George), Trevor Olch (and his wife, Channing) and Alister Dopp (and his wife, Alaina); and great grandchildren Blythe, Tucker, and Winston.
A celebration of Gordon's wonderful life will be held at Bradley Olch's home at 11 Sandstone Cove in Park City on Monday, December 10th from 3PM to 7PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gordon's name to The Park City Community Foundation www.parkcitycf.org
