Jon's parents and my parents were friends, and when our family visited Salt Lake City from San Diego, it was Jon's job to entertain us while the adults had lunch and talked. I am still grateful to him for trying to make us feel comfortable. My heart goes out to your family as you grieve.

Jon Sweet was a wonderful person. My name is Rick Stevenson and I got to know Jon while we were both attending Rowland Hall-St. Marks. there was a real sense of friendship at that very fine school.

I have been living in New York City for  40 years. I have never forgotten the friendship that endures.

Jonathan was a wonderful person and I saw him once when I went back.

I was saddened to hear of Jon Sweet's passing - the sad news relayed through a handful of antique dealers at the antique show.  I am an avid antique collector from Helena, MT and I always enjoyed stopping by for a visit at Hill's House Antiques and Jon and Jeff were always friendly, honest, and professional.  I enjoyed Jon's sense of humor and his humanity.  I will truly miss these visits and wish to express my heartfelt sympathy to his family and to Jeff. My name is Rick Stevenson. I knew Jon from St. Marks. He was a fun and focused person. I remember parties at his families house.

I have lived in New York City from 1972 and I love it. However, Salt Lake City is a wonderful spot with some very special people. Jon was one of them.

Jon was my best friend in the antique business and was truly an honest and forthrirght bussiness man and a great friend. My deepest sympathies to Jyll and Sam. I will miss our phone talks and business association very much.

We at Pioneer Craft House had the pleasure of getting to know Jon just a few months ago, and are very sad to hear of his passing.

I met Jon about a year ago after hearing his name for 40 years from my mother, Josephine, who was a customer throughout the years.   He was so pleasant and helpful.  He went out of his way to help me out at the time, without any charge at all.    He also sent a beautiful spray of flowers to our family when my father passed away three years ago.  I remember thinking how kind it was of him at the time.   I know my mother thought the world of him and trusted him completely.   I am so very sorry for the loss of your wonderful husband and father.  I hope you will find peace and comfort in the coming days.

It is with a saddened heart I relay my condolences to you regarding the untimely loss of your husband and father.  I have done business with Jon for many years, going back to when he first started Honest Jon's Antiques.   I have always admired and respected Jon very much.  He did many kind things for me through the years.   I remember his son, Sam,  bustling around at the Antique Shows helping his father.  Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of Jon's passing. When Jeff called and told us of Jon's passing, Candy and I were heart-broken. Jon was a great friend in the Beta House and forever. After making contact with Jon, we filled our house with his antiques and loved our visits to SLC when we could connect with Jon. Wish we had stopped in more often. We loved him and will miss him. He and Jeff restored a piece as a gift on one ocassion that we treasure. He was the best!

It is with a great deal sadness that I write in Jon's guest book.  My wife Heidi and I have been friends and loyal customers of Jon's for nearly 40 years.  We often joked with Jon, that we were his best poor customers.  There was always something in the store that we had on layaway and as I look around our house, it's all Jon.

When Heidi called Jeff to see how Jon was doing and Jeff told her Jon has passed away, we were both left in stunned silence, followed by an incredible feeling of emptiness. The thought of not visiting Jon, the cats and Hill House is almost unbearable.

We truly loved Jon and enjoyed his friendship for nearly forty years.  He was a kind, gentle and honest man and we willl miss him greatly.

Dad and I will miss knowing you were there to laugh and talk with.  The Salt Lake area antiques business has lost a great friend. Our condolences to the family of one who was way too young.

Jon visited my parents and me in a small, southwestern Montana town in the 1970's.  Jon was in his early twenties and was hot on the trail of antiques.  He arrived with his stylishly frizzy, long hair, driving his 1949 or 50 black Buick. Behind the grill work of the car, Jon had placed a Ronald McDonald doll.  With the hair, the car and the doll, Jon aroused suspicion from some of the more parochial types in the town, including a Madison County Deputy Sheriff.  Before long, all of the suspicious were Jon's friends, including the deputy. It is just another testimony to Jon's winning ways.  He and the deputy remained friends for years.

So sorry for your loss.  His eccentric ways, great sense of humor, loyalty, friendship, and love of history will be missed by all of us who knew him.  After 50 years of knowing Jon, it will be difficult to visit SLC without dropping in to the old Hogar Hotel (Honest Jon's Hills House Antique Gallery) and catching up.  Since ninth grade, Jon's friendship never faltered.  The Bayou Boys will never be the same. 
Our lives are enriched for having been his friend.

Jon Jon I'm sorry you had to leave us behind. You were one of my best friends from the early days on the avenues. We had great fun! I'm glad I helped you and Jeff to keep the Hogar alive in the late 70's and early 80's, those were good times. I never really saw this coming. I've teared up over writing this more than a few times. To his family, Jon was loved by all of us, he was more than antiques, he was stronger than oak,he cared about everyone! I'm Happy to have known such a GREAT man like him! I hope everyone finds peace and comfort.

I knew Jon from second grade on.  There are many memories including numerous afternoons and evenings of baseball after school at William Penn; getting to know the local gas station owner and hamburger stand owner who had the pinball machine thanks to Jon; a road trip exploring caves and camping in high school; studying (or not) the night before taking the SATs for college; and, in later years regularly checking in especially during the year-end holidays and on birthdays.

Jon had a great ability to have mischievous, verbal fun – jinx you owe me a coke.  Along the way new names and personas were invented including Huey, Dewey and Louie; garbage, junk and trash; as well as Kevin Camper and Reggie Ranger.  

To a life vigorously lived.

I happened to pick up & read a SL Tribune today and saw Jon's obituary & was shocked. He was such a nice guy & 1 of the few antique dealers I trusted. I was even going to call him on Monday to ask him an antique question.
I met Jon when I worked at the USHS Museum & he was always so helpful to me.  My sincerest condolences to his wife and son and family.  You were too young to go, Jon.

Words cannot express how much jon will be missed, but as you go through the avenues and the west capitol area you can always see a part of jon left there- because he was very instrumental in preserving and bringing back the original charm of so many historical homes that he brought back to life and many of them filled with his beautiful furnishings. Jon's was always the first Christmas card I received.  We had been friends since the 1970's and enjoyed many hilarious moments in the early days of our friendship.  I will miss him greatly, eventhough I had not seen much of him for the past many years. I am too many miles away to attend the get together tomorrow, but please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Will always remember how accepting Jon was to all of his fellow classmates but especially all of the "Boarders".  My condolences to his family.  He left this world way too early.

My condolences.  Close friends since RHSM. He never missed a x-mas or birthday card, always signed Kimasabee with a return address of Jay Silverheels. I loved that man. A tragic early loss for us all.

I knew Jon through his ferals at the shop and his home.  He definitely cared for all of the strays that crossed his path - and of course the word got out.  I appreciated his caring and his concern.  I know that his family and his four legged charges will miss him dearly.    My sympathy to Jon's family, he was a very special person and I am sorry that he died at such a young age. I am very saddened to read of Jon's passing. Jon and I spoke on the phone a few weeks ago and said how nice it would be to have lunch together but didn't do it. A missed opportunity. Jon was a wonderfully nice person. My condolences to the entire Sweet family and Malcolm also.

I enjoyed knowing Jon as a student of his at RHSM. I have always appreciated his great talents and personality. He offered me advise that has helped me throughout my life.

So many stories of Jon's kindness, integrity and generosity to SLC's urban population. His antiques epitomized the unique and rare. Jon's knowledge of historical information was secondary to his honesty and humility. Sam and Jyll our loving thoughts be with you.

Jon has been my best friend for 58 years. We spent most of our young lives together,he at my house, or I at his. Jon has been like a brother to me. I am heart broken at his passing.... My condolences to his family,and my love to Jil and Sam.

Jon and my husband often conspired to fill my house with beautiful interesting things.  I will always treasure them as they are a wonderful reminder of a truly fabulous man. Our family will all miss our trips to Jon's store, his expertise , and the fun we all had having him sell us treasures.

Jon was helpful, friendly, professional,and introspective. He earned my respect and affection. He was such a decent fellow and I can't think of anyone at any time that said something negative about him.

He was a very, very nice person. We will all miss him.
