Ron Joseph Schlicher passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah at age 50. Beloved husband, father, and brother, he is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Roberta Perry Schlicher and two sons, Aaron Joseph Schlicher and Colin David Schlicher.
Also surviving him are siblings Karen Marie Westhoff (Bob) of Union MO, Sandra Lee Albers (Roger) of St. Charles MO, Michele Ann Drevets (Wayne) of Tulsa OK, and Gary Lewis Schlicher (Donna) of Ofallon MO; step-mother Jane Van Voorn Schlicher of St. Louis MO; sister-in-law Miriam Perry Mimms of Nashville TN and brother-in-law David Perry of Richmond VA; nieces and nephews Christopher Schlicher (Kim), Jacob Westhoff, Madeline Drevets, Cole Westhoff, Marcus Drevets, Austin Westhoff, Emily Mimms, and Walker Mimms. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Francis Schlicher and Madeline Catherine Block Schlicher of Florrisant MO.
Born in St. Louis, Ron attended DeSmet Jesuit High School and earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He began his work as an engineer in 1984 with CH2MHill in Milwaukee WI, then with James M. Montgomery Engineers in 1988 in Pasadena and Minneapolis, ultimately serving in Salt Lake City where he was Vice President of MWH and subject matter expert for water and wastewater treatment and remediation for industry throughout the Western Hemisphere. In all, he worked for MWH and its predecessor firms for 24 years, from February 2, 1988 through February 2, 2012.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron enjoyed flyfishing, freshwater and deep sea fishing, mountain climbing, hiking, skiing, backpacking, and camping with family and friends. He was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 38 out of the Wasatch Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City where he led numerous expeditions in Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. He was especially proud that both his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010.
Ron’s devotion to family and loyalty to friends was unwavering. He will be remembered for his dry wit, readiness to lend a hand to those in need, and his unflagging sense of duty and work ethic.
