Anita was born Aug. 27, 1935, to Samuel and Marie Golden Lance in Gainesville, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Gainesville High School. During high school, she loved playing baseball and working as a "soda jerk" in the local drug store. After graduation, she moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University.
Anita was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker to her family. She was also very proud of her long career with the Social Security Administration, working in Lubbock, Big Spring and then in San Angelo as a claims representative, retiring after more than 30 years of service.
Anita was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour and Elmer Kelton novels and loved watching old Westerns and John Wayne movies.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Elsie Lance and Reese Lance.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Doug Rainey and his wife, Teresa of Mertzon, Leslie Rainey of San Angelo and George Rainey Jr. and wife Nancy of Tow, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In remembrance of her life, the family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 2739 Tech Avenue in San Angelo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society .
