Betty Muston

Betty Ruth Atkins Muston was born in 1923 to Walter and Pearl Gallemore Atkins at Paint Rock, Texas. She attended school at Christoval, Texas and graduated with honors in 1940. She then attended Draughan’s Business College in Abilene, Texas, and worked at Waldrop Furniture Company for 8 years as bookkeeper and secretary. She met L. A. Muston, Jr. in Abilene, and they married in 1943. They had a son, William (Bill) Edwin Muston.

Ruth worked over 14 years for the Abilene School System. She graduated in 1978 from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, then taught elementary school for 13 years in Paducah, Texas.

Ruth retired in 1991 and in 1993 became a resident of Baptist Memorial Retirement Center in San Angelo, Texas. There, she did volunteer work as a secretary, and served the auxiliary as director of the RSVP.

Ruth was very active in church wherever she lived, including Immanuel Baptist in San Angelo and First Baptist in Abilene.

Ruth is survived by her son Bill, his wife, Geena Hawryluk, and two grandsons, Jared Muston and Nicholas Muston, all of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Mary Cole and by numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
